Only those figs drip their dew, fortasse,
Which found their way to earth the day before.
As all processes take time, fortasse
One should press the fig-seed into its pore.
The almanac is heavy on the hands
But the desk shoulders its weight. Fortasse:
Brave young scholars should have filled empty stands
With unleavened notes, scribbled… Fortasse.
Men yearn for love unblemished, fortasse.
Have sons of Adam considered his fall?
Soon will dust accumulate—fortasse—
And dullness will distract mortals of all.
In his carminae, the late Roman errs;
Or seizes truths of the day, fortasse.
What glory may be seized today, what lures,
Sprung forth from one lonesome fortasse.
